The May 2019 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report on recent and historical energy statistics, was released on May 29, 2019. Preliminary estimates of residential sector energy consumption indicate that for February 2019

• Total U.S. residential sector energy consumption equaled 2.1 quadrillion British thermal units, an 8% increase from February 2018.
• Electricity retail sales and associated electrical system energy losses accounted for 53% of residential sector total energy consumption.
• Natural gas accounted for 39% of residential sector total energy consumption, petroleum accounted for 5%, and renewable energy accounted for 3%.
