The July Natural Gas Monthly, with data through May 2017, has been released.

• In May 2017, for the fifteenth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year from the same month a year ago. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in May 2017 was 2,229 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 71.9 Bcf/day. This level was a 0.7 Bcf/day (0.9%) decrease from the May 2016 level of 72.6 Bcf/day.
• The estimated natural gas consumption level in May 2017 was 1,880 Bcf, or 60.6 Bcf/day. This level was a decrease of 4.6%, or 2.9 Bcf/day, from the 1,971 Bcf consumed in May 2016. Despite this year-over-year decrease, natural gas consumption for May was the second highest for the month since EIA began tracking it using the current sector definitions in 2001.
• Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in May 2017 increased in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being electric power deliveries, which decreased year-over-year.  Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in May 2017 were as follows:
  • Residential deliveries in May 2017 were 201 Bcf, or 6.5 Bcf/day, up 2.6% from 6.3 Bcf/day in May 2016. Residential deliveries were the highest for May since 2014.
  • Commercial deliveries were 178 Bcf, or 5.7 Bcf/day, up 3.5% from 5.5 Bcf/day in May 2016. Commercial deliveries were the highest for May since 2008.
  • Industrial deliveries were 622 Bcf, or 20.1 Bcf/day, up 1.6% from 19.7 Bcf/day in May 2016. Industrial deliveries were the highest for May since EIA began tracking them in 2001.
  • Electric power deliveries were 697 Bcf, or 22.5 Bcf/day, down 13.5% from 26.0 Bcf/day in May 2016. Electric power deliveries were the lowest for May since 2014.
