The June Natural Gas Monthly, with data through April 2017, has been released.

  • In April 2017, for the fourteenth consecutive month, dry natural gas production decreased year-to-year from the same month a year ago. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in April 2017 was 2,148 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 71.6 Bcf/day. This level was a 1.3 Bcf/day (1.8%) decrease from the April 2016 level of 72.9 Bcf/day.

  • The estimated natural gas consumption level in April 2017 was 1,907 Bcf, or 63.6 Bcf/day. This level was a decrease of 8.7%, or 6.1 Bcf/day, from the 2,089 Bcf consumed in April 2016. Natural gas consumption was the lowest for April since 2011.

  • Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in March 2017 decreased in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being industrial deliveries, which increased year-over-year.  Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in April 2017 were as follows:

    • Residential deliveries in April 2017 were 281 Bcf, or 9.4 Bcf/day, down 15.1% from 11.0 Bcf/day in April 2016. Residential deliveries were the lowest for April since 2012.

    • Commercial deliveries were 212 Bcf, or 7.1 Bcf/day, down 9.4% from 7.8 Bcf/day in April 2016. Commercial deliveries were the lowest for April since 2012.

    • Industrial deliveries were 623 Bcf, or 20.8 Bcf/day, up 0.5% from 20.7 Bcf/day in April 2016.

    • Electric power deliveries were 614 Bcf, or 20.5 Bcf/day, down 14.8% from 24.0 Bcf/day in April 2016. Electric power deliveries were the lowest for April since 2014.
