IEA: CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion 2020: Overview - July 2020 - eng (pdf)

This CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion Overview (2020 edition) contains a summary of recent trends in fuel combustion emissions.

The CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion 2020 data service contains annual CO2 emissions from fuel combustion and related indicators for 160 countries plus regional aggregates. Emissions were calculated using IEA energy databases and the default methods and emission factors given in the 2006 GLs for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. This edition includes annual data for 190 countries/regions, generally from 1960 (OECD) and from 1971 (Non-OECD), unless specified differently at the country level.

With the 2020 edition, the database was expanded to include:

  • 2019 estimates for emissions from fuel combustion for all OECD countries and regions, India and China, and emissions from electricity and heat production for over seventy five countries
  • Estimates for total and sectoral emissions for over 60 new countries based on additional sources
  • Fugitive emissions of carbon dioxide and methane
  • CO2 emissions from fuel combustion for years back to 1751 for selected regions
