The July 2019 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report on recent and historical energy statistics, was released on July 29, 2019. Preliminary estimates for April 2019 indicate that

• Total industrial sector consumption accounted for 34% of total primary energy consumption.  Total energy consumption in the sector equaled 2.6 quadrillion British thermal units, a 1% increase from April 2018.

• Electricity retail sales and electrical system energy losses accounted for 29% of industrial sector total energy consumption.

• Natural gas accounted for 33% of industrial sector total energy consumption, petroleum for 27%, biomass for 8%, and coal for 4%.
