The June 2018 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent and historical energy statistics, was released on June 26, 2018.  Preliminary estimates indicate that for March 2018:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from U.S. consumption of energy (excluding biomass) totaled 444 million metric tons.  Of this total, petroleum accounted for 46%, natural gas for 34%, and coal for 20%.
  • The transportation sector accounted for 37% of total CO2 emissions from energy consumption, with 97% of the sector’s emissions attributable to petroleum. The industrial sector accounted for 27% of total CO2 emissions, the residential sector for 20%, and the commercial sector for 17%.

The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, stocks, trade, prices, and emissions; overviews of U.S. petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and carbon dioxide emissions, as well as international petroleum; and data unit conversions.
