Summary data on energy production, consumption, stocks, trade, prices, and emissions

The May 2017 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent and historical energy statistics, was released on May 25, 2017.  Preliminary estimates indicate that for February 2017:

  • U.S. primary energy production totaled 6.8 quadrillion Btu, a 1% decrease compared with February 2016. 
  • Fossil fuels accounted for 77% of primary energy production, renewable energy accounted for 13% of primary energy production, and nuclear electric power accounted for 10% of primary energy production.
  • Compared with February 2016, U.S. coal production increased 14%, renewable energy production increased 2%, nuclear electric power production decreased 2%, crude oil production decreased 5%, and dry natural gas production decreased 7%.

The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, stocks, trade, prices, and emissions; overviews of U.S. petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and carbon dioxide emissions, as well as international petroleum; and data unit conversions.
